“Mask to Stay” & “Test to Play” - Late last month the Ohio Department of Health released updated school quarantine guidance. Recognizing that out-of-school quarantining has unintended consequences of reducing in-school learning and adding strain on parents, schools, and local health departments, ODH announced new in-school alternatives to at home quarantining for staff and students. Blended Learning Option – Senate Bill 229 - If passed into law, SB 229 introduced in September will offer a blended learning option to Ohio community schools this school year while presumptively meeting the requirements to receive full funding. Read more >>

Virtual Meetings – House Bill 51 In late January the Ohio Senate amended House Bill 51 to allow public bodies to meet virtually through June 30, 2022. This temporary adjustment to Ohio Open Meetings Act’s requirement that members of a public body must attend in-person to count toward quorum and voting mirrors the previous law passed earlier in the COVID pandemic. Health Concerns in 2022 School Opening - The 2022-2023 school year marks the start of the second full school year with COVID concerns factoring into school policies. While many counties across the state are still categorized as having high transmission rates, most schools and districts have loosened protocols from last school year. Most are not requiring masks and have relaxed requirements for sick students to stay home. Read more >>

Threat Assessment Teams & Plan/Policy Deadline - In accordance with House Bill 123, all Ohio schools must have a Threat Assessment Plan/Policy in place by March 24, 2023.
